Table 2 International Law Policies over Arctic region

Approximately 66°30’N. Land covered by ice and snow.
The northeast region of the earth- Arctic area. There are many unknown problems that need to be solved.

On the one hand, With the great human activities, earth has been damaged a lot by unlimited use of resources. Where does the resource come from? One of the biggest primary sources is the sea. On the other hand, even under the regulation of the ITLOS or ICJ, there are still many unsolved disputes. For instance, the sovereignty of the Arctic is still a big concern of international society. According to these issues, this table will mainly focus on enacting the Arctic issues specifically focused on the environment and the law regime. What kind of legal framework should we make in order to fit the current situation? How do we find a balance point between the state's interest(based in Japan) also with the sustainable development goals?
Let’s be the first polar bear to explore the unknown!

Solutions:
1. To progress literature classes frequently
2. Focus on the quality not quantity
3. Arrange some fun activities(Debates)
4. Table members’ ideas

Slogan connection:
After suffering the serious pandemic, life changed a lot worldwide. In my view, “Big step” means peace and happiness. To enjoy harmony in all relations. It is not only about the big problems or the disputes that we are facing globally, but also includes all individuals with a small action. Small actions make a big difference. “Big step” consist of many small things. For example, when we talk about the greenhouse effect, we usually focus on the problem itself, ignoring that actually changing it needs everyone’s effort. By taking part in the International Student Conference(ISC), I believe this is a “small step” for you, but may be a “big step” in the future. Thank you!

SDGs:
SDGs 14(Life below water)、SDGs16(Peace, justice and strong institutions)
